Regal Heights weathers through Hurricane Irene

Posted August 30, 2011

On Friday, August 26, 2011, after Mayor Bloomberg ordered the evacuation of some nursing homes and hospitals in the New York City vicinity, Regal Heights opened its doors to 24 residents who were evacuated from a nursing facility in Far Rockaway. Regal Heights staff worked round-the-clock to prepare for Hurricane Irene, ensuring uninterrupted care for its residents and visiting residents. Daily operations went smoothly, and by Monday, August 29, 2011, the hurricane passed and the evacuated residents returned to Far Rockaway. Grateful for their stay at Regal Heights, many commented on the excellent care and hospitality they received, asking if they could bring the staff back with them. Administrator, Thomas Younghans, said “No drill could have prepared us for the actual thing, and it was a valuable experience and privilege to take care of the evacuated residents. The Regal Heights staff came together as a team to provide the quality care we are known for, not only for our own residents, but for those who were evacuated to our care.”
